Willson (Marzan style Willson?)

Post by Tabor »

Looking at this Willson, I thought it looked a lot like York style, but even more like Boem & Meinl. I seem to remember some Marzans being made by Willson. Looks like an interesting tuba.

The horn is not as large as it might appear. The Willson-made Marzan 'solo' models only have a 17" bell and .638" bore. I'm 99% sure that's what this one is. This one appears to have the main slide on top a la Marzan but the ones I've seen also had 'Marzan' engraved on the bell.

Current 'stable'... Rudolf Meinl 5/4, Marzan (by Willson) euph, King 2341, Alphorn, and other strange stuff.

I think this might be the same as the current(?) model 4400. Small 7/8 to 4/4 tuba.
