No scandal, but something to keep in mind

After a visit to the eBay discussion boards, I've been informed that it's now common practice to use disposable IDs--many sellers maintain several IDs and just cut new ones when the negative feedback gets too thick.

So feedback doesn't count for much, it seems. Be careful.

Yeah, but this isn't what I'm talking about--this practice (which I didn't think was within eBay rules) involves abandoing an eBay account, using another credit card to create a new one and just continuing on.

When I expressed my surprise at this (because it was once grounds for being banned permanently by eBay), the reaction was one of me having just dropped off the turnip truck. Apparently, everybody's doing it.

Now that eBay is a public money-making enterprise, policing has gotten very lax--and some are getting very good at gaming the system.

Just like having a pile of checkbooks with different account numbers on which to write bad checks.

I suppose this too will go full circle, when the turnip truck is empty and the scams no longer work. Already I am very leery of buying anything on ebay...I did get a nice trumpet a year or so ago, but only after talking to the owner on the phone. No way will I just bid any more. Too bad....what's that they say? That the love of money is the root of all evil. Not money itself, but the love of it.

Partner and I have lots of fun playing duets on our matched Mendez trumpets, too.
