To my untutored eye this:

looks like either a King 1140 or a 2340. Can any of our resident, or non-resident for that matter, geniuses tell me how to tell them apart?

It is a model 1240, which was the predecessor to the 2340. You can tell by the third valve slide wrap and the fixed top 1st valve slide.
