Is the Cerveny 681 their copy of the Miraphone 184?

Doesn't look like it -- here are the descriptions from their respective web sites:

Miraphone 184 CC

Cerveny CCB 681

Actually, had I looked a little further, I would have included this:

Miraphone 186 CC

CC-Tuba, bell 45 cm, 4 valves , Model 86A (186 4V), 440 Hz, Bell diameter 450 mm (17,717 inch), rotary valves, combined goldbrass-nickel silver valve section, spiral spring system, Bore of valve section 19,6 mm (0,772 inch), goldbrass body, nickel silver wreath, Material of mouthpipe goldbrass, Mouthpiece TU21, lacquered

The CCB 681 is probably equivalent to the older-version Mira 186 (with the 16" bell).

I'm not sure that either is a copy. Cerveny was making rotary valve tubas before Mirphone existed. Rotary valve tubas seem to have very similar configurations, but Cerveny was the first to ever make them. The Cerveny 681 is their basic 4/4 tuba.

I still think that Miraphones are better made than Cerveny in general, but the Cerveny came first. I would say that the Cerveny 681 and Miraphone 186 are similar sized and configured tubas.

Thanks, Lew. I suppose that is an important distinction, considering all the recent manufacturers who really are copying Miraphone - Cerveny definitely doesn't fall in that category.

Speaking of Cerveny, I hadn't been to their website in years, and just noticed what appears to be a new series of BBb tubas available, the 800 series, with clockwork springs. Is there that much demand for clockwork springs for them to bring them back?
