Noticed the "bullet holes" (must be authentic, right?). It would have been mounted as seen on this (clearly more recent) instrument:

... so this was "Das Capital" that there was so much fuss about!
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Now, now--the seller said "Civil War Era", which probably in his mind means 100 years either way...

I was wondering about that -- seems like I read someplace that
American Capital was the US subsidiary of
Karl Marx GmbH ...
