A pair of 4 valve Eb sousaphones

Post by Lew »

I received the King Eb raincatcher from eBay this week. Although it is the "loopback" design as opposed to the double loop, the opening is much smaller than on my Conn 28K. Here are some photos to compare:

This narrow opening seems to defeat the purpose of the loopback design, but it is useable, just not as comfortable as the 28K. The raincatcher looks to be in good shape, but it plays like there is a leak. Oh well, now it will have to go into the shop to be made playable.

I see it has the King Rib-Sticker (tm). You would think that sometime in the course of the last 100 years or so, someone at King would have figured out that this is NOT one of the better design decisions. :?

Still, a nice-looking axe!
