Conn 20K Short Action Sousaphone
This horn also has short stemmed vales for quicker action
Gee! Why didn't I think of that, and cut all of my valve stems?

Yes, but its the "pinched" airways that need less travel and are therefore faster... you only use shorter stems because of them! :D

Let's be fair. The seller said nothing about "short stemmed valves". He said that the vales have short stems.
In geography a vale is a wide river valley, usually with a particularly wide flood plain or flat valley bottom. Vales commonly occur between the scarp slopes of pairs of chalk downs, where the chalk dome has been eroded, exposing less resistant underlying rock, usually clay.
Is that clear now? :P
