Why is this only for brass players?

I think you answered your own question. Look at a score sometime, then consider how many things a brass player can think about at one time!

(besides, you don't have reeds to fiddle with!)

Because this one is only for woodwinds!

What's really funny is that I'm sure it's just a regular counter, but that person is horribly trying to market it as a "rest counter."

In all honesty, they put it that way so that people searching lazily through ebay for "tuba" or otherwise will get that counter on the list of searches.

You don't have to be too lazy to let your mind wander in the middle of a 4,000 bar symphony rest, whatever the circumstances. Being on stage gives you the best seats in the house! But it does point out that you should know the music, whether you're playing or not. The very least you should do is appoint a DC (Designated Counter).

Or, you could be like the Bass Trombone I sat next to. Every once in a while, for kicks, he'd take a loud breath, throw his horn up early, and put the mouthpiece to his lips to see if you'd panic, or, even better, come in early.

Of course, I got him back. One night at rehearsal, I splattered an entrance. So I looked at him with amazement, my mouth agape. The Music Director, completely fooled, began chewing HIM out. The rest of the trombone section and I could hardly play when we started up again, we were laughing so hard!
