SOME of the tubas that were made by B & M play good. MOST of the Walter Nirschl tubas play good. SOME of the Marzans play good. That being said, B & M has produced some real dogs, too! Prime examples of some of the dogs are the puny little York Master tubas that they made. Don't get excited, Klaus... I'm not speaking of ALL of the York Master tubas.... just the little ones! This particular horn MIGHT play good, but it falls into the catagory of 'the small ones'.Richard Brown wrote:.... B&M is now owned by Walter Nirschl, they earlier made some of the Marzan tubas, their horns are well thought of by many on this board....

Actually, if I was in driving distance to the seller, I would buy that horn... just to see if it is a 'player' or not. I didn't mean to be argumentive but just didn't want to sign up to any parallel between this horn and the Nirschl tubas... or the REAL Yorks.JCRaymo wrote:I briefly owned in a trade from a friend two Eb York tubas. They were both the York Master tubas. One was an upright top action fixed bell. The other was a front action removable bell front. They were both wonderful little tubas that I still wish I had now. The upright bell weighed under ten pounds and both horns had great false tones.TubaTinker wrote:SOME of the tubas that were made by B & M play good. MOST of the Walter Nirschl tubas play good. I didn't mean to disagree with you or anything but the ones I played were great horns. I am sure they made some dogs too though.

Oh yeah... I know Wayne well.... played music with him lots of times. He has a Civil War 'Reunion' band that he spends a lot of time with. Fred Jewell was from Worthington (I think).... about an hour north of here. I've never gone to one of the Jewell festivals but I've heard they are a hoot. One of these days I have to make 'Windjammers', too. I didn't know Ray Dcamp.JCRaymo wrote:Hi Dan,
Yeah no problem. My horns that I briefly owned where owned by a guy down your way named Ray Dcamp. He passed a few years ago and he had wanted his horns back when he got sick because they were smaller and easier for him to play so I traded him back. I think you know my friend Wayne Jones from down that way too. I don't remember the town it was held in but there was a Fred Jewel festival every year south of Indy. Fred Jewel jr used to attend. That was a very fun festival playing all Fred Jewel marches and circus gallups.
