Oh, I could believe...THE LAST TIME I SAW ONE OF THESE I THIS CONDITION WAS IN A NEW ORLEANS STREET RAGTIME BAND MAKING SOUNDS YOU JUST CANT BELIEVE

The reason your tuba may have had an "unusual sound" is because of its unusual design. The leadpipe, which is the tubing that goes from the mouthpiece to the first valve, looked like it was at least 3 feet long.
