Note the loooong main tuning slide!... something made necessary by the shorter bell-stack.

Either that, or the horn was a high-pitch model to start with and the tuning slide was extended to compensate...

Is it more related to a pecan, or a pelican? :P
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Naw... that's just a plain old ordinary Conn 14K. I had to extend the slide on my helicon about two inches even though the stack appears longer. Here's a picture of the helicon and a 36K side-by-side. Same valve section ('cept for the 4th valve on the helicon).

So is it a factory made helicon or is it a sousaphone with some sort of upright tuba bell?

It's not factory.... but rather a custom 'project'. Nice concept... being able to utilize a sousa case.
