If it is possible to reject a bidder, what better opportunity than to give Harold the boot for being a turd.

Seller won't boot me since I am boosting his potential gain. You might get this horn instead of me, but you will pay for it.
Remember, fellas...

Harold may be a turd but he's *our* turd....

Nothing wrong with a little shill bidding between friends? Why not just set the reserve where it needs to be?

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Nothing about being a shill. These horns have a certain value and I want to do my part to make sure they stay where they should.

An example. I bought a Holton 340 this morning that is in excellent shape and the plating is good for $1,600. With the addition of a MW valveset, that horn should double in value.

Who knows what will happen if I have it restored.
Harold, unless you are bidding on this item to win it yourself, which doesn't seem to be the case by your own words, then you are shill bidding by eBay's rules and risking getting the item pulled by eBay. Thereby harming the seller.

EBay says:
Shill Bidding is bidding that artificially increases an item’s price or apparent desirability, or bidding by individuals with a level of access to the seller’s item information not available to the general Community. Shill Bidding is prohibited on eBay.
If you're going to indulge in this practice you shouldn't declare it on a public board like you have. You're motivations for doing it are irrelevent.

And, no I'm not an eBay cop either.

That's good because no one else like those Holtons anyways...

Whatever makes your world click Harold... Without giving yourself too much credit, I'm sure Mike will do just fine without your help...

Actually, he's all yours....although your "punch bowl" line made me laugh so hard that I'm STILL wiping the coffee off my computer screen :D

So...if it's OK for someone openly to declare that he is bidding with no intent to buy, but just to manipulate the price for his own reasons, then I guess I can place a bid of 16,000 or so just to reveal the reserve, and then immediately retract the bid? I mean, as long as we're acting in our own interests, and the rules don't matter....right?

That still sounds wrong to me, though I am not verbose enough to really say why (big brother? and NOT the father-son thing either).
It IS wrong! Whatever the reasoning.
