If it is possible to reject a bidder, what better opportunity than to give Harold the boot for being a turd.harold wrote:Note: I am bidding on this horn, but am not willing to pay what Mike thinks it will sell for. I am willing however to make sure that nobody gets a steal.
Remember, fellas...harold wrote:Seller won't boot me since I am boosting his potential gain. Nothing wrong with a little shill bidding between friends? Why not just set the reserve where it needs to be?a bidder wrote:Seller won't boot me since I am boosting his potential gain.
Nice try, but sorry.the elephant wrote:They are perfect.

Harold, unless you are bidding on this item to win it yourself, which doesn't seem to be the case by your own words, then you are shill bidding by eBay's rules and risking getting the item pulled by eBay. Thereby harming the seller.harold wrote:Nothing about being a shill. These horns have a certain value and I want to do my part to make sure they stay where they should.WakinAZ wrote:Nothing wrong with a little shill bidding between friends? Eric "not the eBay police and wishing best of luck to the seller" L.
An example. I bought a Holton 340 this morning that is in excellent shape and the plating is good for $1,600. With the addition of a MW valveset, that horn should double in value.
Who knows what will happen if I have it restored.
If you're going to indulge in this practice you shouldn't declare it on a public board like you have. You're motivations for doing it are irrelevent.Shill Bidding is bidding that artificially increases an item’s price or apparent desirability, or bidding by individuals with a level of access to the seller’s item information not available to the general Community. Shill Bidding is prohibited on eBay.
That's good because no one else like those Holtons anyways...harold wrote:I want to do my part to make sure they stay where they should

Actually, he's all yours....although your "punch bowl" line made me laugh so hard that I'm STILL wiping the coffee off my computer screenThe Big Ben wrote: Remember, fellas...
Harold may be a turd but he's *our* turd....

So...if it's OK for someone openly to declare that he is bidding with no intent to buy, but just to manipulate the price for his own reasons, then I guess I can place a bid of 16,000 or so just to reveal the reserve, and then immediately retract the bid? I mean, as long as we're acting in our own interests, and the rules don't matter....right?harold wrote:Note: I am bidding on this horn, but am not willing to pay what Mike thinks it will sell for. Well, there certainly is some bullshit here.bloke wrote: People are just having bullshit pissing contests because THEY WANT YOUR HORN and IT IS AVAILABLE FOR SALE !!!
bloke "heck...Look at all the (all sincere, I'm quite certain) bidding has occurred after only part of one day!"
It IS wrong! Whatever the reasoning.Bob1062 wrote:That still sounds wrong to me, though I am not verbose enough to really say why (big brother? and NOT the father-son thing either).harold wrote:These horns have a certain value and I want to do my part to make sure they stay where they should.
