http://tinyurl.com/2xh4kj The guy's dates look wrong to me, and Dan would say he is wearing it wrong. Interesting horn in good shape though.

I would believe 1970's before I would 1870's.

Interesting that the seller states that "A.K. HUTTL BEGAN PRODUCING THE SOUSAPHONE IN THE 1840`s AND PRODUCED THEM UP THROUGH THE 1940`s.", since this is a bell-front sousaphone, and Pepper didn't invent the "raincatcher" until 1892, and Conn the bell-front until the 20th century.

John Philip hisself wasn't born until 1854!

As soon as the Civil War reenactors find out about this, they'll be clamoring for sousaphones to turn the bells backward.

Oh, those Poles were tricky!

Well, the seller looked it up on a website.

Doesn't it seem a little small for a BBb?

Yeah, and upon closer inspection (just love the pics on top of the laundry pile on the bed) it appears to not have a complete second loop in the main wrap, so probably Eb.

Seller: "IN THE KEY OF Bb FLAT IN VERY GOOD PLAYING CONDITION... I HAVE PERSONALLY PLAYED THIS SOUSAPHONE AND IT SOUNDS REAL NICE AND DEEP"

Maybe played a game of squash with it, is more like...
