Ebay Scam

There is a PT 15 F tuba on Ebay at the moment

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=015

that shares the same photo as one advertised in France here:

This is most probably a scam. Having recently experienced Ebay troubles, I wouldn't want anyone, especially not another tuba player, to have the same troubles...

Sorry, forgot to provide proof - I emailed the seller, who replied using the name Lucas Vermont - in his email he attached the image that is on the French site...you draw your own conclusions.

Not sold yet. I still have this one in my shop. Could one of you please bring this to ebay's attention. I am not in a position to deal with this at the moment. Thanks!

Ebay scam

I emailed Ebay's Security Centre last night (Sunday) so hopefully they will censor the listing, although it usually takes time...

On the French site, it is the 21st listing - the image there was sent to me by the supposed Ebay seller, although the image on the actual auction page has been lifted from Dan's site...the seller also offered me the instrument at a very reasonable buy it now price. Funny that!

Is Ebay a viable marketplace? I was only alerted to the recent scam approach by an article in the Sunday Times. Apparently Ebay users (predominantly from the US) have been duped into revealing their login details and their accounts have been taken over by bogus sellers (predominantly European)...the pattern follows that buyers are tricked into sending money, which disappears too fast for Ebay to catch it, along with the bogus seller. Police in Berlin managed to trace one of these sellers (who dealt in cars) but I don't think he was caught as his trail of operations stretched from the UK to Germany...

Buyer beware!
