I know plenty of people here look for these things. Can't understand why it's still so cheap with only 7 hours to go.

It does. Wish it was in a little better condition. Looks like it needs quite a bit of work before a note could be blown through it.

Strange. Most of the bidders had names like F***k and K***y and they had a lot of activitiy with the same bidder...

Not saying it wasn't all legitimate, but 4 of the bidders had strange ebay names like this. Weird!

Someone came in at the last second and jumped on it, good for you if you're a member here.

It could clean up nice and be fun.

Those odd names are part of a relatively recent ebay option in which bidders' names are kept confidential. Not sure why, but it's not on all auctions, so it seems as though it might be a seller's choice.

The F***k and K***y names are 'hidden names' at Ebay to cut down on bogus bidding. There is some page there at Ebay which explains it all.

I live on Puget Sound in Washington State and we have a strong Navy presence here. I never served but I kind of like the Navy best. (No offense, armytuba- I like the Army, too!) It would be cool to have an ex-Navy helicon to play.

It is still strange that each of them only had a couple of bids and they were only with that seller.

Would have been a good project horn, especially with that nice Navy logo!!!

Indeed. Nothing like the Navy Anchor....

There were a few things about it that said 'custom repair by expert' which also means expensive. I'm single and can have as many horns as I can afford but this one just said 'no' to me.

Remember: with very few exceptions, another one will come along.

I think the seller would have done better if he had listed it under "tubas" on Ebay instead of "antique instruments".
Conn helicons are too long-belled for my taste, but I do know a guy who likes them.

That horn definitely needed some work, I hope whoever got it is able to make a player out of it. Probably need to fabricate the gooseneck, but everything else should be fairly routine for any of the top techs that hang around here I suppose.

I had this on my ebay watch list. Looking to get it for my son. But for some reason he wants a sousaphone more than a helicon. He's getting into jazz and I told him I thought this might be a fun horn. But, he wants a sousa to practice for getting into Ohio State (i dotter - don't 'ya know).

My thought on the repair was to coordinate with Harv Hartman. He fixed up my sons' 1920 Conn (the beast) quite nicely and figured this wouldn't have posed too much of a challenge.

Oh, and I prefer my Navy anchors to be fouled and as a portion of the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor as well.

If it's a 30K, my guess would be that a more modern neck would fit.

My 3K Eb uses a smaller receiver, though, so you couldn't be sure until you measured.
