Does that horn belong to someone here on the board?

Don't know but it is a very interesting 70+ year old BAT in nice shape for what seems a reasonable price range for a rotary 4V. Was raw brass a popular option in the old days? Some people aren't fond of that raw brass smell on their skin after handling it and sweating a bit.

I *think* they offered the raw brass finish into the '50s or '60s. Once upon a time you could order almost any finish you wanted. Raw brass, gold lacquer, clear lacquer, satin silver with accents, bright silver, satin gold plate with accents and a variety of inside bell flare finishing options spring to mind. I think the price margin between the raw brass and satin silver options was very small. I think most people were either stingy and went for raw or had the money and decided to skip the lacquer options and go with silver. Lacquer wasn't really popular until it was the cheapest option.

I own one just like that one for which I believe I paid about $3500. It is a great playing horn that I like to use for outdoor gigs where I am the only tuba player with a band. It has good intonation and is very free blowing throughout its range. Notice that the reserve is not yet met for it. I bet the reserve is close to if not over $3k. I believe that mine has a .750 bore. As I understand it King made rotary value tubas with either .689 or .750 bore.

Looks to have been a very good purchase at $1975 or so. I've long coveted one of these - and would have bid had I been in a better economic situation (same as everyone else, I suppose). If the winning bidder could drop us a note that would be appreciated.
