It looks to have the same wrap as the CBB 601-4R, but the bell and overall appearance are smaller. Looks bigger than a 4/4, maybe a 5/4-ish model no longer produced? I'm assuming this is a BBb, but I'm no expert.

What is the secret to the Cerveny model number system anyway? I get the CBB-6XX part and the 4r part (BBb, yellow brass, four rotors) but beyond that I'm lost. They appear to have 3 slightly different Kaiser BBbs: http://www.cerveny.biz/tuben/bbb_tuben/

That thread was actually discussing this very same horn. Ed Jones had thought that this tuba might be stolen from UT Arlington. Any resolution on that front?

Boy, what a crummy memory I have (not to mention a poor eye for BBb vs. CC). I actually was looking at this same listing back in October and took part in the above linked discussion.

This is the same horn that was discussed in October and I have no doubt in my mind that its the horn that is missing from UTA. Through a a chain of events that is too lengthy to get into in this forum, it was discovered that no police report was filed when it was originally reported missing. Therefore, it is considered "unrecoverable".

What anyone considering bidding on this horn should know is that it is an absolute piece of junk. This horn is from the late 1980's when Cerveny was still a state controlled company and the workmanship is absolutly horrible. The valves are loose and leak and are improperly fitted. Response, intonation and sound on this horn are all subpar. The horn is so bad that I only issued it to students if their regular horn had to go to the shop. In order for it to be a playable instrument It would need to have a complete overhaul including the valves and the valve ports would need to be scooped to match the valve tubing (the horn is at .830 bore but Cerveny used the smaller .795 valves. I'm sure the cost of bringing this horn up to speed would far exceed it's value.

Just letting the Tubenet followers in on some inside information.

I notice that the auction has been cancelled again. Some people never learn <sigh>.
