This horn is a player ! The low register is excellent and the intonation is typical for anything in Eb.

I had this horn at the factory in Sumiswald and Peter Hirsbrunner Jr. confirmed that it was in fact his grandfather who made the original 3 valve horn. I brought it to the USA (all import taxes and duties paid) where Harv and I brought it back to life by installing the 5 new (somewhat period correct, old stock) Meinlschmidt valves.

The starting bid is less than the price of the initial horn, valves, labour and importation fees. It’s rare to find a Hirsbrunner in any condition anywhere in the world for this price.

If it doesn’t sell it will most likely be going back to Switzerland.

The horn is in the USA and can be shipped anywhere in the world.

I'm on tour in Europe (was in London, now in Prague and then will go to Rome) and don't have the horn in front of me but here's what Harv says:

"With the tuning slide out 1/4 inch the open Eb's are in tune and the middle Bb is about 10 cents sharp but playing the Bb with the 4th valve brings it in tune. The low C and Bb are good notes. C -G -C plays well with the third valve. The upper Bb below middle C is 5 cents sharp but is in tune when played with the 4th valve."

It takes a little getting use to but with some alternate fingering and slide pulling you can play it in tune. The intonation is actually much better than the original 3 valve horn. What I really liked about this horn was the sound which, for me, made up for the alternate fingering.

The intonation on this horn is much better than my Eb monster York and my original King CC and Willson-Marzan Eb. I have also a 3 +1 Hirsbrunner Eb rotary (same non-compensating rotary model as the one which sold last week for over $4,000) and the intonation on the 5 valve version is better plus you have all the valves on the same hand to pull slides.

The fifth valve is a long whole step , similare to a long first valve slide.

With the new valves, this horn has even less playing time on it than the horn that sold last week that had been played only 17 weeks.

If for some reason the new owner is not happy with it, they can return it.
