I may just be showing my ignorance here, but is there seriously any such thing as an Eb that would be "a good candidate to use to convert to CC" ????

Sure! I mean, "good" doesn't mean it's going to be so easy I could do it, but you're looking at an oversized Eb design with a huge bell. If it wasn't made for a contrabass tuba it's at least about the same size.

If it wasn't very successful as Eb - intonation problems, maybe weak low end, no one wants a 3 valve monster Eb, high pitch, etc. - and if it fell into the hands of one of several artisans who consistently make very desirable CC tubas with bells like that.

Of course, that's an exotic potential. If you had a tuba that's a really great candidate to remain Eb, then you would probably focus on that when trying to sell it, and forget about the CC conversion idea.
