old Cerveny on ebay

Hi-
I was interested in this horn,which is on ebay--I contacted Cerveny, and they replied back to me saying:
'It is difficult to judge pitch of an instrument as per pictures, since most Eb and F tubas have very similar construction, but I would say it is in F, due to the 2nd branch which is not as tall as on the Eb tubas, but without any guarantee. As per the year of origin, the only thing I can say for sure is it was made after 1918 and probably before 1938.'
Horn has a 16.54" bell and is 37.4" long. It is missing the 1st finger touch. Clockspring rotors.
Horn is in Bulgaria but will ship to USA.
FYI for anyone interested. Good luck!

Hey Mark,

Hw are you doing? Since I am only two hours from where he states the horn is located (NC) I bought it. If the horn is out of country then I guess it will stay there. We shall see.

The seller clearly says;
The shipping is from Europe, because the Tuba is in Europe. Will be send with priority mail.

I just spoke to the guy again and this appears to be a scam. He states the horn is his and he wants to upgrade. In his ebay post he states that he knows nothing about these horns and it belonged to his grandfather. I asked him what the fingering was for a low EE as well as a picture with a current newspaper on the horn and he has not responded.

I bought this tuba. It took 9 days to come from Bulgaria. This was the second tuba I have bought that "might be" an F tuba. (The first turned out to be a Miraphone E flat.) The body is in very good shape. Obviously it was never used as a junior high horn. Slides and rotary valves were frozen from probably years of not being played. It has wonderful sound, it is in F, and although it is a large horn it is very, very light weight which suits me fine as I am almost as old as it is.
It is now in the hands of my wonderful technician, Chuck Barnes, of Kenosha, WI. who humors me when I bring him a project like this one.
