Holton or Buescher did indeed have a 'siamese' set of ports on this horn. The dual port passages were intended to shorten the piston stroke without decreasing the bore. Two smaller bores fed into one. This is a very rare sousaphone. Belongs in a museum.KiltieTuba wrote:I thought those valves were from Martin? Or am I thinking of another tuba? I don't recall Buescher having short action valves
Any idea why there are two separate 2nd valve slides?

I did not buy this. I do have a recording bell tuba by Harry B Jay with those valves. Lets say there could be a reason why we don't see more of these...
It's an interesting concept, but oval ports were a much better idea (particularly oval ports in the Allen rotary valves).
