Cool horn. Hopefully you pull down more than $400.00 bucks. I would buy it if I had the cash, but alas, I do not.

Neat! How is the intonation?

Intonation is as good as any other tuba. This horn gets a big sound. I was playing it with a Dennis Wick 1XL. 8)

So you're saying it's lousy?

No, it can be played in tune, just like any other tuba, once one identifies any problem notes and makes adjustments. :)

I thought I'd read that the big Kings have pretty good intonation. If you can check it up and down with a tuner and it doesn't have a flat low D, sharp 4th, flat 5th,... :D then I'd be interested. 13 and 123 combos don't worry me (and really, one or 2 off partials comes with the territory). Sure is a fine lookin horn!

The intonation is actually quite good. With a tuner, if Bb is good, low D is not flat. First line Bb is a little bit flat, and third space Eb is a little bit high, (Sorry, Bob), but both are lipable. It is very responsive to different mouthpieces. The so called false tones sound great. BTW, I don't have a proper mouthpiece for the horn. Using a Wick 1XL, the problem is getting Bb up to pitch. If you adjust your tuner down the tuba plays in tune with itself. If I were going to keep the horn, I would try different mouthpieces.

It's alright, every horn I play now has a sharp 4th partial; most of them also have a flat 5th!! 56J, 20K, medium King Eb,... FML. :D

I wish King would revisit these as they already have the bugle (both big and small) and valve set. The Kanstul is nice, but I'd much rather pay 4000 for one. :D A responsive, big bell, in tune Eb would be the friggin cats pajamas!
