Was wondering about that myself. I guess it depends on condition and how high bidding will go.

I don't hink this is a monster version. I have one and the bell on mine does not look as flared as this one and mine is 20.5 inch diameter too. I think it is the regular or smaller size. As for value, $300 is a good price where I think $900 is appropriate for a fully restored one of the small size. The monster version in the higher quality finish should go higher. Look close these horns were made when bands were tuned higher or lower than 440. I don't think this one has the slide extension to allow tuning to 440. This horn would always be sharp (in my opinion).

I asked the seller about the measure of Bore and he informed me that it is about 0,700".
With respect to these measures seem to be a "Monster" like this.

Thanks York-aholic.
I'm thinking of buying this horn, but everything will depend on how the bids will...

Thanks a lot!!!

How do these big Martin Eb's play? I was really interested in the 2 front valve ones that were on here a while ago but my 1916 Conn Giant Eb has made me wary of these things.

Hello everyone I won the bids for $ 305.00, however the salesman told me that
a friend of his was also interested in the tuba and he would pay $ 500.00.
Conclusion! I did not buy the Tuba my bid was canceled.
Does anyone know if there is a person who has a horn Martin to sell?
I want one !!!!!

YORK-aholic wrote:I went and had a look at it this morning. It is a 20.5" belled 3 valve Martin Eb, which I believe they marketed as a "Monster". The bell rim is obviously larger than my 17" belled "Medium" Martin, but the bell throat is much bigger. It takes a small shank mouthpiece (just happened to have one with me, weird huh?). Valves all move fine as do the slides. There is evidence of some bends having been rolled out of the bell, but other than that it is just about totally dent free. Other than the wear to the silver plating, I was very impressed with its condition. A fair amount of silver is worn from the engraving area on the bell, and from the leadpipe. It really is a nice horn for a 3 banger.

Is this a low pitch or high pitch?

There are more of these horns than people with the inclination to rescue them. With a bit of patience, you will be able to get one at a good price, even if it requires a couple of bottles of silver polish and even a bit of repair. They also take some getting used to--they do not play like modern CCs or BBbs. Could be tomorrow or a couple of weeks, or more or less.
I agree with Yorkaholic--there is no reason to let one missed opportunity bother you, and the end result may be that you have cash available for an even better horn. Happy hunting!

The same horn appears to be back on the auction site. I wonder what is going on.

I did not understand well, remember that the seller would not sell me because he had received a better offer. I sent a message to him asking what we had been and he did not answer me yet.

Again, nothing concrete, but just a gut feeling I have, having met both the owner and his son who was doing the computer work for his pop.
YMMV
Unfortunately there are many good and bad intentions, I think that if the seller wants to earn $500.00 by the horn he should list the horn with this value and not let the bids.
I gave up buying this horn because I had the chance to find another horn that I am buying right now. Look at.
