My summer practice tuba

I listed it as what I thought it was, an oddly unmarked Olds 99. Someone wrote and said the bracing and first valve slide are wrong, and maybe that's so.

Which means I don't know what it is. The guy who sold it to me thought it was a Conn, but I can't find any Conn that looks like this. Who knows.

Whatever it is, it's a beater ex-school instrument with the usual dents and solder repairs. It has done what I needed it to do, keep my chops in shape this summer.

Do any of the lore masters have thoughts about what this might be, if it's not actually an Olds, as I have thought?

It doesn't look like my former Olds O-99.

Maybe a Reynolds or something?

I don't think this is an Olds, Reynolds, Conn, or any other of the old US-made brands.

I would come closer to thinking this is a German (maybe Meinl) or Czech tuba from the 60's or 70's. Could be French, too.

Just don't know. But... I do know it's not an Olds 0-099.

A better picture of one of the valve caps would help. Maybe a better picture of the bow ferrule profile.
