World gone mad

Post by Michael Bush »

My crystal ball says this instrument will sell for between$2000 & $3000:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tuba-Mirafone-V ... 336f865559

If you don't want it, though, the bidding starts at $4000 for this [allegedly German but probably Chinese (sourced "from North America, Europe and Asia")] copy of it:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Accent-TU951R-c ... 3a6e0a0098" target="_blank

Shouldn't the copy cost *less* than the original?

(I'm not against Chinese tubas, of course, in fact I'm waiting as patiently as I can manage for some to arrive, but I do think some people's marketing and pricing strategies are just insane, and I hope they don't work.)

Accent tubas (and euphs) are made by JA Musik GmbH (B&S, VMI, Scherzer, Hans Hoyer, Meinl-Weston, Antoine Courtois, Strasser-Marigaux, Sternberg).

Also of cool note... there is at least one "Accent" tuba that is a Thor out there. A wonderful beatboxing tuba player was in a group endorsed by Accent and they had a model for every instrument, except tuba... so voila, he had an "Accent" Thor.

It sold on tubenet quite a while ago. It played awesome. Didn't have some of the valve problems the other Thors do either.
