Hi everyone,

A good friend of mine is selling his Marzan custom CC. This 4 valve tuba was built by Matt Walters at Dillon Music was a conversion done in the mid 80's. The instrument is awesome, and plays very well. The response is fast and even, intonation is very solid, and the sound is really gorgeous. There is lots of pull on the 4th valve to play all of the chromatic notes, and there is also room to put a 5th valve on if you'd like to.

Just trying to help a friend!

Neat! Is that a MW valve block?

Interesting horn. The bugle is without a doubt Marzan (aka Nirschl, B & M). Although the valve section has the same hardware as two variants of B & M/built Marzans that I've seen... the angle is far less than I would expect (more parallel to the bell). Maybe Matt could chime in on this one. No doubt a great horn if Matt had anything to do with it. But... inquiring minds would like to know the details.

Looks to me like the main tuning slide is at the bottom, which is why I guessed a MW valve set (or at least not a straight up Marzan valve block). My guess was that the original valve block was replaced with something else. Totally a guess.

Either way, I agree with Dan, I bet this is a very nice tuba.

Matt's a little occupied with some stuff right now, but I know for certain that this is a Nirschl valve set. Really is a phenomenal tuba! :tuba:

I can't believe this piece hasn't gone for more money. What a cool horn.

Still plenty of time left, no reason to bid yet. Surprised no one has chosen to Buy it Now!

Hey Gang,
That Marzan CC on Ebay is indeed a horn that was cut down from a BBb to a CC by me (Matt Walters). I used an older Meinl Weston 2165 or 2145 valve section that was Bohm and Meinl (pre-Nirschl) built. If anybody wanted a great playing 5/4 CC tuba at a screaming low price, that is it. If you wish to add a 5th valve, it would be very straight forward. I set it up so that you can put the 5th rotor valve right after the 4 valve and have an easy shot at the linkage, etc. The slide pull left would be no shorter than that of a 6/4 Nirschl CC or MW 2145 main t/s pull. For the rotor you could use a .795" bore Cerveny; .807" bore Meinl Weston, Rotax, Meinl Schmidt, etc.; or .812" bore Yamaha and .807" bore Meinl Weston tubing. It's wide open in the back. If I had the cash right now, I would have bought it, put the 5th valve on it myself, and sell it for nearly double what Joe is asking for it. The leadpipe is one of my custom tapers and made from seamless drawn tubing.
