Hmmmm.... looks a bit like it's actually a left-shoulder horn and the leadpipe/main slide has been 'messed with'.

I don't get it? It's just like like any top action tuba, but you insert yourself through the tuba and your head is now in front (but your hand is still in back, as usual with top valves.) A top action helicon/sousaphone ends up on your right, front action on your left, for the same reason the two point different ways. So the seller's idea about that seems to make sense to me.
