I've always wanted to try one of these. I've seen lots of pretty horns offered by this vendor but can't find much feedback on him. Has anyone here dealt with him?
I've had a couple of these horns. I've not received any complaints from those who bought them. However... for my purposes... I did not find the large size to be any better playing than some of the smaller horns. Like the Old O-099-41 or the Reynolds 'Contempora' 4V.Frank Ortega wrote:I remember liking them when I was in HS, but haven't tried one since. What's the valve bore on them? I always wondered what they'd play like with a more resonable bell on them. Yes, I know they'd go sharp, but what about the response and tone?
Just curious!
Yes, I have dealt with him plenty of times. George Borodi of Borodi Music in cleveland/euclid. I've been to his shop, talked to him for probably 2 hours over the 3-4 times i've been there. Everything he does is done right.Mtrhed wrote:I've always wanted to try one of these. I've seen lots of pretty horns offered by this vendor but can't find much feedback on him. I've put a German bell on one of these. It made it a rafter-lifter, far better than the stock smokestack.EdFirth wrote:When Lee Richardsen was with the Orlando Symphony he used one with an Alexander bell which kept it at about the same height but without the pancake diameter. I played it years later and Bloke nailed it, "a King on steroids" and my main horn has been a King since 81'. I have heard that Zig Kanstul was involved in the design of these. If I wasn't ancient with a house full of horns already I'd probably go for it and put some sort of German bell on it. Ed
