Anyone willing to check out/pick this up for me? I contacted the seller but he said he wasn't really interested in shipping. I really want that tuba if it's for real. I would certainly pay the shipping costs and any fuel costs if someone is willing to work with me on this. Thanks!

Looks to me like there are a couple of good sized holes in the bell. Might be worth having someone take a look at in person, before plunking down the cash. Especially checking the condition of the valves.
* if there are a couple holes but everything else is good, it could still be worth the price.

Thanks very much Wade! You are correct, I have the three valve version, which is why this caught my attention. I've got someone who will be in Philly this weekend who offered to look at it for me. I'm just afraid it might not be for real. The seller responded almost immediately, but wasn't interested in shipping and hasn't responded since.
By the way, did my PM make it to you about the slide cutting?

Hello,
Good luck with the Bach.
On the 2, 4 valve tubas that I use at my schoolroom, the Bach already has the third slide shorter than the Reynolds 4 valve.
If/when you buy it, check with a tuner before you cut. The 3 valve Olds has the longer slide like the Reynolds.

Did you get it? I paid $300 more for mine but even after Joe rebuilt it, the valves were shot, I still wound up with a great playing quintet horn for under 2 grand. I am a happy camper.

Not yet. I'm having a hard time getting a hold of my friend in Philly. Is anyone else close by and willing to help me? I'm really wanting this horn!

If someone is nearby, please PM or email me. I can wire you the money, and send you a (rough) hard case full of shipping materials in which you can send it back to me via Greyhound. Please contact me if you are willing/able to help! I want to upgrade! Thanks!

In case you somehow don't know about them, Wichita Band Instruments is within driving distance from Lincoln, albeit a long drive with not much scenic variety! They only show a couple 3V Olds right now, and you won't get craigslist prices in any case, but they might be happy to know about a prospective customer, and I believe they're good people to deal with. Been around forever.
