What was the consensus of the TNFJ on this one? I thought I remember seeing it discussed but can't find the thread...

I like the sticker on the bell- looks like it says:
"WARNING: Beware of the Tuba Player!"

Oh I know that horn! This really nice old guy (I forget his name) in Eugene made it in his garage. Always goes to the Tuba Carol concert there. I played it maybe two years ago. It wasn't a bad horn. A little wide/unfocused sounding to my ears, but really not that bad. I do think that all the slides come out. If I owned the horn I would cut that stupid wide bell flare down to a more realistic size. If you like something around the size 2J buy this horn.

The bell can be replaced with a more appropriate one if the tuba plays decently in tune and responds well. The huge sousaphone bell flares some here like drive me crazy in how diffuse and unfocused *everyone* sound when they play such horns. And that one looks like a really interesting horn. I would not mind having it to fart around with. If it was a good player I would most definitely swap the bell with something I liked better.
Did it seem to be braced and assembled well?
I wonder whether Ally House would be able to test it for us and post a report. If so we could help that nice guy out by locating a buyer for him.
Yeah I remembered it played well pitch wise. It's a small bore horn so it plays like a small horn down low but was, if I remember correctly, fairly nimble. Much better than I expected. The horn looked pretty clean to me bracing wise. I think he went through the trouble to do it the right way. Very clean clear coat on it. If I knew it was for sale when I lived there I most likely would have bought it. But the bell flare needs a change, I agree with you on that. Send him an email with your phone number, he'll chat your ear off about tuba stuff.
