Anybody familiar with a 1/4 Melton 186? I owned this, but traded up to the full size 25. I played it in a 40 piece civic band. The other two tubas, a Miraphone 186 and full size Yamaha could easilly walk over me. This would be great for a small ensemble.

You're thinking Miraphone...

Seems like a smaller version of the MW 18 "Handy," which is a nice, but very compact instrument. I think that gives me a better picture of what the 186 is like.
Probably a very nice tuba, and probably a fair price as compared to buying it new... but in all reality, I can't see many (any?) American buyers lining up to pay that much for it.

No. He is not mistaken. I own this model horn. It's listed as a 1/4 size BBb tuba. However, it is more like a 3/4. And it is a Melton 186. Not miraphone. Definitely Melton/Meinl Weston. It is a nice little horn. It won me a full tuition scholarship. I'm actually planning on selling it to find the purchase of my CC of anyone is interested.
