Is this a shortcut (literarily so) repair, or is it a design that wasn’t repeated?

Wow, a 12-15 dB increase? Just what the world needs, a trombone that is more than twice as loud.

The bells on those are very thick to make up for the lack of rim. The problem that likely led to their eventual downfall is that the bell had a tendency to audibly ring if you hit just the right note/volume. Otherwise, they're pretty sweet vintage trombones.

Agreed. I used to own one. Lovely trombones to play on.
Looks like this ones been cut to A=440hz. There should be 3 braces like on almost all trombones; one by the bell lock, one one the tuning slide plus one bracing the entrance areas of the tuning slide. Its this last one thats missing.
