I thought the same thing when I saw that.KiltieTuba wrote:http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/msg/3702699292.html" target="_blank
Looks nice, though the price seems high for a three-valve

I don't think it's a King body. And from what I've been told the only "Big" horns they made were the rotary "Monster" Bb's. Not counting Jumbo sousaphones of course' but Ive never seen any Kings that weren't a variation of the .687 bore with front or top action valves.FWIW, Ed

The valve section looks like one that TubaTinker has that is a fixed bell front. The valve section also looks like that of a king sousaphone with that tubing loop before the first valve.

Re: Big King with Conn Bell
I knew Dr. John very well and I think, if my memory is correct that I have seen this horn before. Not a big 6/4 tuba. Most likely a nice 4/4 horn. He did have lots of horns, and I mean lots. He was never a fan of really big horns and used an outstanding king 1241 with a custom rose brass conn bell for a lot of his work. I doubt that the bore is any bigger than .689.
