Take out the pigtail and cut it to DDb!

(This and the St Pete piston show just how hard it is to take a rotary horn and convert it to piston. One puts a big loop before the valveset, another after. My personal project of that nature has been working out well, but required lot more reengineering than I originally thought.)

When I see stuff like this... it makes me want to jump in my car... drive to Jim Laabs Music... and just take a long look at the morons who think 'compensating' means a 5th valve. There ain't nuthin' 'compensating' about that horn!

Yeah, that compensating thing really bugs me, too. I've also noticed they often describe piston horn as rotary horns and rotary horns as piston horns. I think they just copy-paste many their instrument descriptions and try to add fancy-sounding words to try to move the product. Not a very good marketing campaign in my opinion.

As a side note I'd like to hear how it plays, you never know.

I dunno....it doesn't look too bad to me. Kinda looks like a funky version of the M-W 2145, with a taller bell and loop in the leadpipe. I can think of quite a few tubas much "uglier" than this one...

What effect does that big loop have on the horn? Not trying to be a wise guy, just trying to learn something.

I emailed the seller and finally understand the compensating system.
Hi
We have other model available in the CC yes
The Compensating helps the lower and upper register so you hear more clearly
Feel Free to call me 1-800-657-5125 and I can get into details
Sincerely
Jeff Garsomkee

It looks sorta-kinda-maybe-similar-ish to a Jupiter 584 ... but not exactly.

Thanks for that, I have always wondered but now everything is crystal clear. As you have the contact, maybe you could ask Jeff if it is possible to get The Compensating as a spare part and add to other instruments too?

It's not a compensating valve, it’s a confiscating valve !
It helps Jim Labbs confiscate more of your money !
But you get some worked and shaped metal for the money so maybe we should not really say confiscated, I would more think of it as some sort of obfuscation. Anyway, I am very interested in getting that thing that helps me with the highs and lows. 8)
