How do these play? I've never seen a Holton like this. It's kinda ugly but at least it's cheap.

Yes, but it looks like a King. Didn't HN White employ Holton or was it the other way around?
Dunno. But... not on that particular horn. The valve caps are 100% Holton euphonium. I have one hanging from the ceiling in my buffing room.
Parts are pretty much non-existent (except for the one hanging in my buffing room

)

Is this a decent horn (if it is in good repair)? Anybody ever play one of these or have an opinion on it's characteristics?
Buying an old horn like this form some dude a thousand miles away, of unknown playability, is always a crapshoot. It could very well very high mileage on it, worn out pistons and worse. At least the dents I can see are readily accessible.
Thanks, Walter

I have a Falcone model Holton which is very similar to this one. Plays OK- in tune, but just doesn't have near the sound of a Besson.

Unless you can confirm that the horn is in good condition... ESPECIALLY the valves... be very wary as parts for this horn are very few and far between. I don't know of any other makers that will interchange with the Holtons.
The last Holton euph I had through here that needed a piston... I had to have one made for.

I wanna check it out but it's like a two hour trip out there (no car).
