I wondered about that too, but we also know that Conn reused model numbers. I don't know what this is, but it's a fascinating looking instrument.

I know. It was difficult finding info on this horn. Unfortunately, the pics I'm trying to attach are too big, but if you go to the listing, you'll be able to see the 4 pistons. On the receiver, it's engraved 20J.

So, I had to make sure what key it's in, since I'm not 100% sure, and one of the brass guys played it. It's in Eb. Does that sound about right for horns this old? Sorry for not knowing too much about these, but there's not a lot of info that I can find for a 4 piston 20J, upright bell. Thoughts? And thank you for your time and help!!

Yes, the 5th rotor was added later on. When I was saying 4 pistons, I was referring to the original style, before the addition. Sorry for the confusion.
Anyway, The bell is actually not detachable. And it's hard to tell with the aging in the silver if the receiver is original. It doesn't look like it's been worked on, if it has, the tech did an amazing job back then to blend the solder job. The owner said it was indeed a 20J. But, I really appreciate your help. I'll take a closer look around on the horn to see what I find.

Maybe I'm not seeing it properly but the pics displayed on ebay do not appear to show a removable bell. (at least not without some unsoldering). Also here's a pic of one that is (was) owned by Karl Megules: (minus a 5th valve)

Conn re-assigned many if not all of their model numbers sometime in the 1920s or '30s. The original use of 20J was indeed for an Eb; there was one for sale at Baltimore Brass in the past year or so.
