Is this heavy use wear? Or indicators of its use as a school horn?
The pictures also show a patch on a knuckle and some green patina.

I hope it is not some sort of crazy glue....it's going to be bad for a repairman to 'undo' someone else's "repair" attempt....yuck.....

It plays Fountains better than any tuba ever made. I am also keeping my local Home Depot alive by purchasing all that RTV. I am a job creator.

Shhhhhh! Some enterprising soul will start finishing horns with RTV instead of lacquer of silver... THEN where will you be!?

I used to think highly of this guy, but that's kind of hard to swallow.

Well, besides the repair...

What could happen to an instrument to cause that sort of damage? I doubt it's a construction problem on such a high-end horn... some sort of neglect or damage?

It's amazing what people will do to a musical instrument to "make it better." I once bought a mouthpiece on ebay, when it shipped the seller said, "I shined it up for you."

He had put the mouthpiece on a lathe and used steel wool to remove the tarnish. It had a nice, scratchy brass finish (with a hint of silver) shine to it. I told him he had ruined it and returned it.

Yeah, I think that's the kind of sorry thing for me. Pinholes would be red rot? Don't worry, plays great.
