I don't think this one is the 5/4 'Giant' model like the one Bassypants won/bought. I think this is the 4/4 1251 model. The bugle size looks 4/4, and there are a few differences that you can distinguish a 'Giant' from the other 4/4 models. The 1270/1 'Giant' has guard strips soldered to the back of the larger bows, the first valve upper loop is slightly wider, and the valve caps are different (with the "covered" design), not to mention the bigger size.

My H.S. had a King 'Giant', a 1250, and 3 'King Instruments' 2350 sousas (post-H.N. White/pre-UMI), all bright silverplated (the older H.N. White models -- 1270 and 1250 -- had been overhauled/refurbished my first year). This was in the mid-late 90s. I also played an old satin-silver 1250 at the first college I attended. Fine sousas. :tuba:

The sousaphone sounds great and has a big, full, rich, and colorful sound. The presence is very impressive and is a very different sound compared to a conn 20K. It sounds like a concert tuba, which is the point.

Here are two quick shots of the sousaphone so far, http://s1140.photobucket.com/user/Jbouc11232/library/
Your sousaphone looks great. I agree about the sound. King BBb sousas have always had a clearer, more textured sound than the Conn BBb sousas, not to mention being better in-tune...

I can't remember which one I asked about but I think this one had a 7.25 or 7.5 inch collar ... Meaning it would be a 1271 with a .750" bore.
This horn isn't a Giant though. The pictures are different than my Giant 1271, the Giant 1271 I played at Purdue, and the Giant 1271 pictures on horn-u-copia. It is still an awesome horn though I am sure. It would be interesting though to see the tension size differences. I do know that a Giant Bell fits on a 40K body.
