seriously, I have no idea what this is or how it would be classified. Would this possibly pre-date valves? kinda odd.

EDIT: The guy has several of these and he calls them 'german fanfar' and according to this wiki entry (translated by google) that means 'fanfare' and "short blaring music kit , preferably for trumpets or horns , and usually only at Triad tones. It is used as signal in war or hunting ; also relates on festive occasions, in which case the word is equivalent to the English "flourish" and the German "ink"."
So is this a 'signaling' tuba? Seems a lot bigger than a 'trumpet or horn'

I believe this is an instrument called a Schalmei. It is used in Germany. It seems to be descended from the Medieval shawm.
