Also, I'm puzzled by why somebodies asking price would be so much lower than the purchase price. (Albeit probably a reasonable price for the horn in question.)

Better than one might think. One member of our Section plays one of these Schillers, and the principal in this year's MD All-State Community Band concert played one too (see pics in the Low Brass Section Photo thread).
