That looks more B&S than Alexander. Never seen an Alex with a thumbring or paddles like that, but it's right there on the bell...

Message from seller:
"the bell is original to the tuba. longer paddles may have been installed"

I cannot explain the engraving on the bell kranz. But... that horn is the classic B & S/VMI 101 stencil that often sports a name like Carl Wunderlich, Sonora, etc.

Even further... it could even be a 'hybrid' built from parts from a set of 'real' GDR stencil rotors and (egads) an Asian open bugle. The backing plates on the thumbring, etc. look a little small for REAL B & S parts.

Yeah, the paddles are a little funny looking, but the rest looks like classic Alexander to me.

My bigger concern would be that with a tuba like that, how much buffing was done to get it smooth enough to take a new coat of lacquer like that? It might be reaaaaaal thin now. Or, it might be just fine. Seems like a big question mark for that much money.

I see the auction has been pulled because "there was an error in the listing".

Imagine that!

I sent a screenshot to seller this morning... I guess that was his response.

Yep. Looked like Chinese with some B&S or reproduce-style parts. Reminds me a lot of a trumpet I saw once that said it was a Bach strad, but it obviously wasn't.

Seller stated that this is B&S with Alex bell.

Considering possible issues the best thing would be to check it out in person.
