First time I've ever seen the case. This tuba must have led a somewhat sheltered life.

Looking at it closely, It's been apart at least once (see the burned lacquer) and there is evidence of a lot of reworking in the bell but, considering it might be 40 years old, that's not too bad. A proper case does "shelter" an instrument. If kept in a case, the damage in the store room and in transport is greatly reduced.

Mercedes name wasn't used until the 80s, maybe? More like 30 years old at the outside, I think. Nice playing tubas.

I owned one (with a case in much worse shape than that one!) that I did a lot of work to. It was a very nice playing horn. It could be played very well in tune with the first valve slide on top. I added a pull ring to mine just because it's in a bit of an awkward place to grab.
