Every 185 I've ever seen DID NOT have the brace between the bottom bow and the main tuning slide.tofu wrote:No question it's an early Mirafone. My question is whether it is a 186 or a 185. It might be a 185. I have a friend with a 185 in the same number range that looks like this one only he has both the original recording and upright bells. He bought it new and it still looks new.
My own 185 built in '69 does and it's original to the best of my knowledge. I'm the second owner. It's entirely possible the horn on fleabay is a 186. You certainly see more of them then I do.TubaTinker wrote:Every 185 I've ever seen DID NOT have the brace between the bottom bow and the main tuning slide.tofu wrote:No question it's an early Mirafone. I suspect that I've not seen all of them.tofu wrote:My own 185 built in '69 does and it's original to the best of my knowledge. I'm the second owner. It's entirely possible the horn on fleabay is a 186. You certainly see more of them then I do.
