I don't know about the "Gray Zone" described there, but I understand "grey market" to refer to a slightly different phenomenon, that's a consequence of manufacturers trying to sell their wares at high price points in certain countries. An independent will then import them from somewhere they can be bought cheaper, and undercut the manufacturer's exports. Possibly without warranty support etc., if that follows the official import channel. From all of this the music industry “Gray Zone” was born. It works like this: You can bring instruments in to the U.S, do what you feel it needs to be completed, or you can have your American technicians put hours of “set up time” into it. A good example of this is the baritone saxophone. These instruments need a lot of time to be set up right! Now this imported instrument is arguably “MADE IN THE USA” with no one to govern by percentage of tech time of what constitutes where it’s made. Another example is you can pay 2,000 U.S dollars to buy a very prestigious clarinet from Europe where its keys are made in China. Some big name instruments companies took advantage of this “gray zone” for a long time.
This is the JBBB520 made by JinBao, we just discontinued it and replaced it with the JBBB300. They are OK tubas but i wanted something that responded better and had better focus.TubaTinker wrote:Who manufactured this horn and what is it a copy of?
