My curiosity led me to contact the seller because I had never played a York sousaphone.
It has a very warm tone--very uniform throughout its range. When I stood back and listened to the seller play it, I was impressed by how focused the sound is without losing its core.
The original neck and receiver are quite interesting. They facilitate sitting to the side of the sousa as the dance band players did. But I rested the horn on my shoulder. Together, the seller and I worked out an angle of the neck and bits that made it comfortable to play.
This horn requires a little more air than some, but not significantly so, because of its larger bore (a common mouthpiece shank would be too small in the receiver). It was very easy to play extended phrases.
IIHO, $1600 is a very reasonable asking price for this York sousaphone.

The Chicago Sousaphone is virtually identical to my helicon (except for the obviously different bell. I think that my heli was built in 1925.
