Re: Bohland & Fuchs Kaiser on German eBay
His dimensions appear to be a bit out of proportion. .807" bore is pretty good size for a 14 1/2" bell.hrender wrote:The measurements work out to 40 inches tall with a 14.5 inch bell. Isn't that more Miraphone 184-185 sized than "kaiser" sized?

This design idea was very common in the past. Actually it doesn't affect the sound materially. It's first in later years the wider bells have been popular.hrender wrote:The measurements work out to 40 inches tall with a 14.5 inch bell. Isn't that more Miraphone 184-185 sized than "kaiser" sized?

A modern version of this horn is Melton/Meinl Weston 197 which also has an unproportionally designed small bell.
I've read this horn is designed from a pre war II tuba, found by Melton and strongly supported by Walter Hilgers, former tubist with German Brass.
Nevertheless it's a true kaiser and very popular among several highly respected pros.
