I just saw this on CL. It's a four-valve Olds O-99-4 in silver plate. The cost seems very reasonable as well.

Never saw one in silver before. Good price and it's a 4 valve.

I can't say enough about these tubas. I just got mine out after a 2 month hiatus (newborn vacation) and I really enjoy playing it.

Someone is going to be very pleased.

No joke. My O-99 3 valve can hold its own with any tuba. :tuba:

Which is why most orchestral tuba players prefer an olds 099.

Maybe not. But if more aspiring orchestral tubists would buy this instead of an "orchestral tuba" they would have less debt and a more appropriate horn for when they teach middle school.

I only say this because this is my exact experience.

Could you elaborate more on how the O-99 worked out in the orchestra?

My middle school music teacher was blessed with more patience than anyone I have ever known before or since!!

It didn't. But if I had been more of a realist, I would not have purchased a large CC tuba and an F tuba for my "future orchestral job." I could have been less in debt and had an awesome/appropriate tuba for my playing needs.

I think I am being misinterpreted. I am a middle school band director who loves his job. If I had come to this realization sooner, I could have skipped all the I need this tuba and that tuba to be successful.

These are good tubas that shouldn't be passed over because it doesn't have a certain name, size, or fundamental pitch.

Thanks

Yeah, not at all. We need an occasional reminder, like that orchestra crack, to keep us from thoroughly over-selling them. It is a good design and very practical size, for many purposes, though not all.

I'd be all over this horn if I lived on the east coast (vs Oregon.)

I am the owner of this tuba. It comes with a hard case. I'd be willing to ship it. Especially if there's an amtrak station close to you.
