Re: Old Cerveny
Neat horn! Is that "curly cue" in the tuning slide standard issue or is it a case of putting extra tubing on a CC tuba to make it a BBb?

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving's probably not for you.

That's pretty wild. Is the top half of the bell actually a replacement?

Looks more like a High Pitch to Low Pitch conversion (1/2 step)

Re: Old Cerveny
What else would account for looking like that? it's too bad they couldn't find a match that worked out with more of a radius. I would call it the bell flare, though, not the "top half" of the bell. Looks like hell to me - honestly, no matter how well it played, that would bug me bad.bort wrote:That's pretty wild. Is the top half of the bell actually a replacement?

I dunno, world's largest kranz?
I agree with you, there's just no way that I could ever learn to live with that.

Re: Old Cerveny
If you imagine the bell 'replacement' removed, it looks like the tuba would need more length in the bell section to flare out into what might've been its original bell. Is it possible that the tuning slide is curled to compensate for this removed length in the bell section?

Re: Old Cerveny
Is it worth asking the seller if there is a joint on the inside of the bell?
Or for a picture of it (the inside of the bell, even if there is no joint)
I hesitate to speculate on this Cerveny based on previous Cerveny experience, but can comment on said experience if anyone wants me to...
My favorite detail is the 4th valve is out of sync with the other 3, as can be seen if you follow the wrap. Yet the slide locations are consistent.
