I have never understood this. If something is an "easy fix" why don't you just get it done and not have to take the price hit due to an existing problem?
I guess I can understand it if you don't have ready access to a place that can fix it. But a stuck valve, rotor or piston, can, perhaps, be relatively "easy" or can need some moderately expensive work.
